Final year students work in small teams for their Management Development Module to create a project which raises money and awareness of the charity. In 2014/15 nearly £5,000 was raised, sending the overall total through the £42,000 barrier.
Students plan and manage an array of projects to help the charity, while also developing essential personal, management and problem solving skills.
Over the past few years students have accompanied module tutor Peter McGrath to Cambodia to spend a week with the children: "Working with the Green Gecko School is a truly unique experience for all involved," said Peter. "To witness such passion, enthusiasm and energy between the children and students is incredible.
"The children are excited every year to meet our students and learn so much through the process. I look forward to taking another group next year and seeing how the children have progressed."
Student Joanna Kipps was part of the 2013 trip. She commented: "I feel fortunate to have met all at the Green Gecko School. Working alongside the children was lots of fun; their enthusiasm for learning and happiness in life is inspirational. This was a life-changing trip and will always stay with me."
Aimee Cairns visited Cambodia in 2015 and said it changed her outlook on life: "The trip is hard to capture in words, especially moments like seeing the sunrise behind Angkor Wat. Whilst in Cambodia I witnessed extreme cases of hardship and poverty which took me out of my comfort-zone and reminded me why I was there.
"However, I was able to experience so much joy and happiness in the simple things in life. I now have new friendships, a sharpened desire to further develop my cultural knowledge, a craving to visit other developing countries and hundreds of memories that will last a lifetime."
